The High Self

Picture: Haiku Ladder Hawaii

The Kahunas believe in a third and highest form of consciousness in humans and in contact with It they perform their wonderful deeds. ... "High self" ... In his body ... It lives outside the physical body; It can be near him, but also far away from him.

The Kahunas called the High self aumakua, which means "Parental spirit" or "Father-God." There is no father in the ordinary sense meant by this, the root word au, which means "older" within the meaning of fully grown, fully developed and superior in strength, wisdom and trustworthiness. Au is also "a string", in this case the Aka-string, which establish a link between the High Self with the lower self-couple.
....
The Kahunas taught that all prayers must go to the first high self, because our Aka string only reaches up to It and cannot bring us into contact with higher beings. It was believed, however, that High Self will, if it could not fulfill a prayer request itself, ensure that the prayer will be forwarded to higher beings.
.....
In Huna system there is only one great sin to be committed deliberately: HARM ANOTHER PERSON.
....
The biggest discovery in the life of people is the finding that there is a high self; the second is to learn how to cooperate with him and how his help can be obtained .....

I personally think the Kahunas (Hawaiian word for expert or priest) are very fascinating. I believe that their views about the world, and their access to esoteric practices are very powerful. And how much is similar to other systems. Fascinating, this world in which we live.

This is fascinating!!! Do you have any book suggestions??? I shall definitely have to look at this subject further... I have always been captivated by the questions and mysteries behind consciousness. I sometimes have felt that deep down, or higher up :), I have knowledge on this subject...

Isn't it amazing how many different cultures have beliefs and awareness on the matter of consciousness... Some of the older civilizations, their language and forms may have been primitive, their conceptual acts have always been beyond... Have we reached an evolution plateau? Or have our ancestors surpassed us? Where did that knowledge go?

Dear enreal, well I am afraid my knowledge about books are somewaht limited but I have ordered now a book of Max Freedom Long. Maybe the author is a good choice.
When I read your poems I do know, that you have knowledge about the subject.
Interesting thougt about primitive cultures. I think many of them are ahead of us, because they have a 'whole' knowledge of man.
