Folly

"When I was growing up, my father was fond of using sayings to encourage me to remember important lessons. One of his favorites was , Do you know the difference between a wise man and a fool?' He would then go on to say that a wise man makes a mistake only once. A fool makes the same mistake over and over again."

Robert B. Grady

Robert Grady's father is right with his saying. But if we have a close look at our own behaviour in daily life, don't we make the same mistakes over and over again because we are part of a community of normal people.

  • We drive cars with combustion engines having an energy efficiency of 40% instead of electric engines with an efficiency of 95%.
  • We use plastic bags, while billiards of them pollute the oceans and endanger animals.

Which examples of daily life folly do you know?

All those sayings you heard as a kid come back to haunt you. Like the carpenter's rule, "measure twice, cut once. " Hopefully people do learn from their mistakes, but unfortunately the realm of right and wrong is fuzzy.

Hi Ray, I do believe in that saying that only fools commit the same mistake twice, but why do we fall in love over and over even if we already know the "mistake" we have committed previosly? This is so because as you have said, we are social human beings and part of the normal occurrence around us so we tend to look for a partner.

Thanks for sharing.

Love is not a mistake, it is a chapter in time. Thank you for your visit.

Dear rachel, nice to see you twice. Yes I do hope people learn, but sometimes I see me doing old mistakes again..

Dear jena, such a powerful women like you needs a vivid mirror in the world. I would agree with rachel that love is no mistake. On the other hand I think it won't be merely a chapter in time if you find the source of love inside. If you haven't found yet, I am sure you will.

Dear torasham, welcome to my blog and thank you for your point of view. I think I know what you mean...
